All the Portland Limestone for the new war memorial wall, including 13 panels with 736 names duly engraved, arrived safely on site yesterday.
Work on the block wall to hold the panels was nearing completion yesterday afternoon, ready for more concrete to be poured between the two layers today (Wednesday).
A new field drain and soak away has been put in to catch surface water behind and disperse it away from the site - unlike previously when rainwater and mud cascaded all over the conflict stones, totally obliterating them
Following a meeting with the contractors and stonemason late yesterday, it was agreed that work on placing the panels will now start on Friday morning. This will allow work to be completed around the block wall, including back-filling with soil, and clearing the site of any unnecessary equipment and material.
It will also mean that the stonemasons should be unhindered in their work, which includes the use of mechanical equipment to carefully position the heavy stone panels.
The contractors will finish off the wall holding the conflict stones and work on the random stone wall on the opposite side of the site to the stonemasons.
Despite the ever changing weather, the project is progressing well.
