Chorley War Memorial site update - 28th September 2012

A fine morning today (Friday) enabled contractors make good progress.

A specialist team of stonemasons and civil engineers moved the Falklands Stone from the back of the site without a problem.

Work will commence on building a small retaining wall at the back of the repositioned Falklands Stone on Monday.

Moving the large memorial stone will enable the building of a new low screen wall of 16 panels, upon which will be engraved 741 names of men from Chorley who gave their lives in WW1, WW2 and other conflicts since.

The excavation of the foundations are well advanced, so much so that the project is ahead of schedule - despite the rain earlier in the week.

Commenting on the work to date, Chorley Remembers Secretary Steve Williams said: “I was on site today along with officials from Chorley Council to watch the Falklands Stone being repositioned and everyone was very pleased with the result, as well as progress with the work overall”.
