Chorley War Memorial site update - 9th October 2012

Work is on schedule as the sun shone in Astley Park today.

Names have been engraved already on to eleven of the thirteen Limestone Panels at the engravers in Hampshire, leaving just sixty names from World War Two and six from ‘Other Conflicts’ to be engraved.

It is hoped that the panels will be despatched to site on Friday or Monday.

Work on the block wall to hold the panels is progressing well with most of the rear part of a double skin wall completed.

Contractors hope to finish the wall by Monday of next week, weather permitting, having filled the cavity with concrete.

The wall holding the conflict stones is almost complete apart from a few coping stones which have yet to be delivered; work on this will continue after blockwork on the main wall is finished.

Commenting on work to date, Chorley Remembers Secretary Steve Williams said: “I was on site today at a round 3.30 p.m. and was pleased with progress and the standard of work. I was particularly impressed with the setting for the conflicts stones.”
