Chorley Remembers

Chorley Remembers is a major heritage project devised, managed and delivered by the Trustees behind the Chorley Pals Memorial, a registered charity no. 1121707, based in the Lancashire market town.

We’re appealing to relatives of men who died in two World Wars to come forward to ensure their loved ones names go on the town’s civic war memorial in Astley Park.

So far we have identified 695 names of men from the town but want to ensure we have as many names as possible.

Remembrance Trail

The project will design and produce a heritage/remembrance trail leaflet, connecting all major sites in and close to the town centre
Memories

The project will be publishing a book about the men and women from the town who died in conflicts from the Boer War to modern times, as well as recording people’s memories on video and audio formats
Remembrance

There are plans to hold a Festival of Remembrance in Chorley during November 2012
Education

The project will provide an education and teaching resource pack for the 56 primary and secondary schools in Chorley. This picture is of pupils from Parklands High School visiting the Chorley Pals trenches on the Somme
Local History

We'll be assisting local groups, churches and villages in the Borough with research into their military connections
ROF Chorley

The project hopes to encourage former workers at the Royal Ordnance Factory in Euxton to record their memories of working at the munitions factory during the Second World War and beyond
Family History

The project aims to help and encourage individuals from Chorley to research their own family's involvement in military conflicts over the years
Awareness

The project will provide talks, workshops and exhibitions to local groups as well as developing this website
Restoration of the Memorial Gate

Urgent work will be carried out to repair the 1914 -1918 Memorial Arch at the entrance to Astley Park
Memorial Room Upgrade

The small memorial room in Astley Hall currently only features the First World War, and will be improved as part of the project
Memorial Improvements

Access to and interpretation around the Chorley Pals memorial site will be enhanced
Names Added to the Cenotaph

A major part of Chorley Remembers will be researching and placing the names of the fallen from Chorley onto the town’s Cenotaph in Astley Park
