Chorley WW2 Veteran Passes Away

Peter Ainsworth

Peter Ainsworth

It was with sadness that we have learnt of the death of Peter Ainsworth, a Second World War veteran from Chorley.

Peter, who lived in Ashfield Road in the town and worshipped at St. Mary’s RC Church, passed away on Christmas Eve; his funeral was in Chorley in early January.

Peter Ainsworth served as a Corporal in the King’s Royal Hussars from June 1942 to April 1947, seeing action in France and Germany in tanks during 1944 and 1945.

He also served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Observer Corps for thirty years from 1952 until 1982, during the ‘Cold War’.

He was an active member of the Chorley & District Ex-Services Association, having joined them soon after its formation in March 2002 .

Our sympathies go to his family, friends and colleagues.
